Pacing Yourself

One of the most challenging aspects of a declining balance dining plan is learning how to pace your spending over the entire quarter. Your initial balance seems like a lot of money, and it’s easy to lose track of your purchases, since using your ACCESS Resident Dining Plan is cashless. If you don't spend your entire balance in the fall quarter, you can carry over up to $65 worth of Points into the winter quarter. You can also carry over up to $65 in unspent Points from winter to spring quarter. At the end of the spring quarter, however, any Resident Dining Points which are unspent will be forfeited. Unused Resident Dining Points in excess of $65 at the end of ANY quarter are forfeited to the University, so you'll want to pace your spending to avoid any forfeiture.

How to Pace Yourself:

  • Point of Sale Weekly Pace Sheets
At each of the registers where Dining Plan Points are accepted, you’ll find a chart showing daily “on-pace” balances for that entire week. You can check the register balance as the sale is rung up, or your receipt will contain your balance.
  • Cash Register or Value Transfer Stations

You can verify your balance at any cash register where Dining Points are accepted- just ask one of the cashiers- no need to make a purchase. You can verify all ACCESS balances yourself at Value Transfer Stations, located on the Main Level of Benson Memorial Center.

Your Dining Points Can Also Be Used for:

RLCA and RLC Dinners and Events: As part of the Residential Learning Community Association (RLCA ) programming, your Residential Learning Community (RLC) may plan a special dining event. You can use your dining Points at these University-sponsored events, including Bon Appétit Cooks- cooking classes in your Residence Hall community kitchen offered by our own Bon Appétit Executive Chef, Michael Brinkmann.

Food Contributions:

In keeping with Santa Clara University’s belief in compassion and caring for those less fortunate and in service to others, each quarter the University will designate an authorized charitable group that seeks donations of food. If you wish, you may choose to contribute a meal to that organization. Contribution amounts range from $10 in Points to a maximum of $50. Details will be provided by the sponsoring organization.

Dining Points cannot be spent at off-campus locations.
